Neurofeedback treatment in San Luis Obispo and Avila Beach

Neurofeedback (often called EEG biofeedback, or brainwave training) is a type of biofeedback that uses real time displays of electroencephalography (EEG) to illustrate brain activity. By recording brain wave activity using sensors placed on the head, we can gather information about why an individual may be having clinical symptoms based on what is happening in their brain.

Once initial information has been gathered through a QEEG, neurofeedback then provides additional opportunities for rehabilitation by directly retraining the electrical activity patterns in the brain.

Neurofeedback can help the brain regulate itself, increase circulation, reduce inflammation, control pain and promote healing of the brain and the body. Our brains dictate the chemicals which drive our body. When the brain is calmed, regulated and stabilized, life becomes more manageable.

You could benefit from neurofeedback if you:

  • Are looking for a natural alternative to medication.
  • Do not respond well to traditional treatment approaches.
  • Are interested in increasing healthy brain function to improve attention, cognition, and reduce memory loss and stress.

Optimize your health

Neurofeedback strengthens the brain’s ability to regulate itself, focus, relax, and be more resilient. It can help control pain and relieve inflammation.

Brighten your brain

Brain brightening is a process which helps the brain to become more active, alert, and efficient. Clients have reported finding brain brightening helpful for enhancing both memory, sleep, and focus. This protocol may be particularly helpful for seniors or those dealing with some degree of cognitive decline/deficits.

Gain peak performance

Peak Performance is a protocol designed to enhance the performance of athletes such as golfers, students, business persons, artists, and musicians. It is helpful for those seeking to maintain focus and psychological stamina for lengthy periods of times while controlling anxiety.

I am a long time, very satisfied client of Dr. Lapidus... I had some concerns with my memory and accessing the right words when speaking...Being able to see how the different areas of my brain work and communicate, in layman’s terms, and also the changes that can be accomplished with focus and instruction, has been invaluable. We so often focus on other aspects of our health, taking the time with a skilled professional to evaluate your brain health is something I highly recommend. The results for me have been priceless.

Neuro(therapy) was extremely helpful in determining which areas of my brain were “overactice,” as well as damaged. In knowing this I was able to see what I needed to work on in order to make myself feel better. I felt alive again! I also loved how I could consistently track my progress...I was finally able to see my brain improve!

After only 2 sessions, my massage therapist noticed a huge difference in my appearance and the condition of my body when I walked in. She noticed I looked more calm and relaxed, working on my “trouble” spots was a breeze – greatly reduced tension. It is so wonderful that these sessions are having such a benefit!

I have just completed session number 20...at The Lapidus Clinic. It has been an amazing journey increasing my skills to remain available to experience (and remember) life. My world seems brighter and life easier. I am able to use my breathing skills to relax what I formerly called “my furrowed brow” when I am challenged. I regard my neurotherapy sessions as a gift I did not know I needed. I am so thankful for the opportunity to “brighten” my brain. I have not felt so well over all in over 5 years.

My name is Vi and I am 80 years old and within days of being 81. It was just a year ago that I was feeling great. I was planning a birthday party for myself, calling it a Gratitude Party and inviting friends and acquaintances that I felt extremely grateful to…Jump forward a few months – things started to happen. My sister was diagnosed with Alzheimers. Later my son and his wife lost their jobs. Suddenly my wonderful life became stressful. My body reacted and I dealt with it in my usual way. I visited my therapist and with a history of depression she suggested I make an appointment with a psychiatrist to consider antidepressants. The doctor suggested a light box (which did seem to help) and said she would get back to me regarding the antidepressants and after my thyroid results came back. She didn’t get back to me. I became more and more disenchanted with doctors in general. My primary doctor didn’t return my calls. I had been referred to a heart doctor who had done stress tests and insisted I take statins even though I told him I did not want to take them as I had learned they are very bad for you. Dr. Lapidus was starting a concierge practice and I decided that might be a good answer for me...

I was getting acquainted with my new doctor and she told me that this year is focusing on the brain and would be starting a program in her office called Neurotherapy. I immediately told her of my interest in the function of the brain. I had listened to 22 hours of videos regarding “Awakening from Alzheimers.” I told her also that there is not doubt in my mind that I am slipping cognitively and I would be very interested in the brain program...What an interesting experience. She put a hood that has little holes in it on my head. I was connected to the computer and it showed how my brain was reacting. I am learning how to control the chatter in my head. I began to feel more relaxed and less stressed. There was an amazing thing that happened in early July. During the day after an early morning session...I felt a lift in my spirit. It was like I had walked out the end of a dark tunnel into the light. My interpretation is that I did not know I had been depressed. I knew I wasn’t happy. I knew I did not feel the joy and gratitude that I had felt just the year before. I could still smile and to my friends I suspect I appeared the same. BUT for months I had been struggling. That day I felt the negative feelings lifted from me. It seems to me that I am better able to handle my life in a less stressful way. I am sleeping better and deeper even though I still make several trips to the bathroom. I have continued to feel lifted out of that negative place. I can now feel joyful and feel the gratitude for the wonderful life that I have. Funny how life works!
